Hi, y'all. More than 30 new fics were posted across KJC fandoms last month (28 of them thanks to the spring Discord exchange), so as before, I'll space them across multiple posts/days. First up, inspired by Casebook & Spectred:

P.S. Feel like writing something with the assurance that someone is itching to read it? The collection is remaining open indefinitely for treats, and you can see prompts via this app or the exchange's requests summary

P.P.S. All the works currently in the collection (9 KJC fandoms) are listed at https://archiveofourown.org/collections/KJCharlesFanDiscordSpringExchange2022/works

P.P.P.S. The organizers are planning a second Spring Exchange (in recognition of the southern hemisphere's observance of the season) later this year. The dates are:

Nominations: July 1-9
Signups: July 10-17
Works due: September 18
Reveals: September 23

Need an invite to the Discord server? The link is posted at https://archiveofourown.org/collections/KJCharlesFanDiscordPrompts/profile

The writers have been busy, so I'm going to parcel these out over several posts/days. First, new fics in the England Series/Will Darling Adventures realms (plus a couple I missed last time because of pasting fail):

All over the place: billiards, cats, oral sex, pushups, maths, nightmares, slagging DH Lawrence, slagging DS, a letter from Miss Climpson, guncles, hurt/comfort, dancing, terrines, manipulation . . . )

Assignments for the Spring Discord Exchange went out today, and it looks like there will be at least 20 new full-length fics or art in the KJC-verse by the end of March.

That said, there's been some lovely work posted since Yuletide (fic + podfics). Here's a list:

England/WDA, SoG, Feximal, Unfit to Print, Lilywhite )

The mods at the KJC Discord will be posting monthly prompts for a collection on AO3. The server invite is there. The January prompts are "party" and "new."

[Not a mod; just encouraging all the fic :) ]

Hi, I'm Kit, aka sagarvo/skiesofaugust!

I recently created a Discord server for KJ Charles fans. There's not a lot of us yet, but we're already having fun, so please join us!

I should note that the server is 18+ only (not surprising, considering KJC's works, haha) It's also poly/multishipping-friendly and kink-positive.

The invite link: https://discord.gg/2MGATEDg4Z

I hope we'll see you there! :)

Hullo!

Here via [personal profile] vae's mention of this comm in their comment at phoenixflight's A Professional Mishap, which is ~4900 words of delightfully smutty England/Darling. Daniel is so Daniel in this that I'm grinning as I reread it.

But what I'm really here to happy-scream about right this moment is a fan portrait of Daniel and Archie that showed up on my Twitter feed this afternoon, by Justin (wickedliltongue). Holy mother of green velvet black-gloved fabulousness! *flails* (It's also on his IG at https://www.instagram.com/p/CW63f9trbJK/)

Hi everyone! Thanks to [personal profile] sea_changed for suggesting I come and promo the exchange here.

I (and some friends) are running a match-on-fandom exchange for KJ Charles fandoms, and sign-ups open on Monday! You can check us out [community profile] kjcharlesxchange, on twitter [twitter.com profile] kjxchange or on tumblr [tumblr.com profile] kjcharlesxchange.

Cover of Wanted A Gentleman with banner reading signups 1 to 16 Feb and assignments due 3 April

We're open to offering and requesting fic, podfic or art, have one check-in, and a 1000 word minimum for fic and podfic. I'm really looking forward to the exchange and all the great fanworks it'll create! If you have any questions, feel free to tweet at us, ask us a question on tumblr, or comment on dreamwidth!

End of year fic exchange season is upon us, and there's a lovely amount of KJ Charles in the tagsets - and the chance to add more!

[community profile] holly_poly has nominations open until the end of tomorrow (October 18th) EDT. All groupings requested must include at least 3 people. The tagset (the list of fandoms and relationships for which participants can offer or request fic) is here and you can nominate there as well. At the moment, the tagset includes Band Sinister with the relationships Guy Frisby/John Raven/Lord Corvin/Philip Rookwood and John Raven/Lord Corvin/Philip Rookwood, but since it's still open for nominations, go ahead and nominate any other threesomes or moresomes from KJ Charles books (or other media properties if that's your bag!) that you might want to write or request over there.

Of course the big one is Yuletide, which is now open for signups. Yuletide has nominated characters in the tagset rather than relationships, and signers-up can request 0-4 or Any (where Any means any nominated character, rather than any character in the fandom category on AO3) characters for each fandom request, and offer 2-12 or Any characters for each fandom offer.

The KJ Charles fandom categories in the Yuletide tagset are:

behind a cut because there's a wealth of goodness here )

Feel free to talk about what you want to request for any of these, but please don't talk about what you're offering - these are both anonymous exchanges, with author reveals happening after fic reveals!

For anyone who doesn't know, Yuletide is a huge fic exchange for small fandoms which runs each October - December, with fic reveals on December 25th and author reveals a week later. All of KJ Charles' books and book series count as small fandoms, but they're only going to be there to request or offer if they get nominated.

Anyone fancy co-ordinating some nominations? I'm definitely going to nominate Band Sinister, but I can only nominate three fandoms and four characters for each fandom, so if anyone else wants to nominate some KJ Charles books for Yuletide or wants to join in with the writing and reading, drop it in the comments!

Nominations close early on October 1st, so we effectively have just a couple of days to get nominations in.

I was trying to remember all the connections between different KJ Charles books and I can't find a comprehensive list anywhere, so I thought I'd try to make one. Assume this has spoilers for every book up to and including Sugared Game.

Spoilers! )

this is a question for those who have read THE SUGARED GAME, second book in the will darling adventures series. please don't read below the cut if you don't want to be spoiled, but... i just need to scream about this with someone :D

spoilers for the sugared game and speculation about book 'verses overlap )

Apologies I missed all the intros to the comm bac in January and then the spring and summer of the plague happened. KJ has been somewhere on my TBR list since at least last year (when I asked for some Audible recs) and in my general awareness for a couple of years before that.

I had some time off planned this weekend (Friday through Monday evening) with a giant To Do list to work my way through - which was all going swimmingly well until I decided to read the first chapter of The Magpie Lord. I'm sure you can all guess what happened next. *G*

Nearly 3 days later and I have devoured The Magpie Lord, A Case of Possession, Flight of Magpies, Jackdaw, A Queer Trade, Rag and Bone and today Band Sinister.

I may now need ALL THE FIC for the first three novels and, of course, Band Sinister - which I desperately want to see made into a TV show which would run for several seasons inclduing all the backstories for the original trio of The Murder plus their various bffs.

I may also be pondering whether to dive into the Society of Gentlemen or Sins of the Cities next and the To Do list can be damned.

As an aside the exchange that made me chortle most today was the one (of many) between Guy and Philip in Band Sinister:

"He's ruined innocent women's reputations!"

"One. Just one. And, between us, that was by request. The lady in question was desirous of being ruined in order to escape an engagement that was repugnant to her, but on which her family insisted."

I've reread every KJ Charles book but 1 this spring, after doing the whole oeuvre last fall. Maybe this will suffice for a while? We'll see.

Anyway, for fun, I made a sorter of KJ Charles books + a selection of short stories. I was kind of surprised at how my top results went, actually--not so much the top 3 (Magpie Lord, Spectred Isle, Any Old Diamonds) but the rest (Think of England, Band Sinister, Feximal, A Seditious Affair, The Ruin of Gabriel Ashleigh, A Gentleman's Position, and--the real shocker--Flight of Magpies). In case anyone else would like to try it!

It's been a week! (and oh what a week it's been)

Let's discuss Slippery Creatures. Here be spoilers in the comments!

Did you love the characters? The world? The plot? Have you read other KJ Charles books that you'd compare it with? Things that are in common with other books? Things that are new? How do you feel about it being the first book of a trilogy and how this one ends taking that into account?

If you're a Kindle reader in the UK and you don't already have a copy of The Magpie Lord, it's currently just 99p on Amazon Kindle right now!

If you're a Kindle reader in the US, it's just $1.29, which is a cracking bargain, also on Amazon Kindle right now.

If you're a Kindle reader in any other country, it looks like it might be worth checking it out.
