Rupert stared back at me, arching an eyebrow in that way of his which was both irritating and infuriatingly endearing, even now that he was on the wrong side of thirty and very far from the wide-eyed lad he had once been.

"May I finish reading the letter before you start complaining, Detchard?"

"There is no need to finish the blasted letter. No. Does this place –” I gestured around my room, where all our various weapons and clothes were strewn about for an all too easy reach – “look fit for a child?”
